Breast Reduction in Sacramento
Not every woman wishes to have large breasts. In fact, having enlarged breasts can cause some women to have both physical and emotional stress. Overly large breasts can be a source of insecurity, make it difficult to participate in physical activities, find flattering clothing, and can even cause pain in the neck, back and shoulders where bra straps are positioned.
Dr. Davis can help women with enlarged breasts achieve a more comfortable breast size that complements their figure, reduces physical discomfort, and boosts self-esteem. For the patients that choose to have the surgery, it is truly life changing.
For Dr. Davis, great breast surgery results are about achieving the desired look, size, symmetry, and shape for each woman.
More about Breast Reduction
During Your Consultation
During your breast reduction consultation, Dr. Davis will assess the shape, volume, and symmetry of both breasts and take measurements. You will have an opportunity to share your story of how larger breasts have affected your life and discuss your goals and ideal result. You will be able to describe to Dr. Davis how much smaller you would like to be. You can also share and specific concerns and have all of your questions answered.
Technique
Prior to going into surgery, Dr. Davis will measure and mark your breasts for the reduction. These marking serve as a guide in surgery to insure the best possible shape and symmetry. Using incisions that result in “anchor” scar pattern, the excess skin and breast tissue is removed, and the remaining breast tissue is shaped and suspended to create smaller, lifted breasts. The size of the areola is also reduced to keep it in proportion with the breast. The surgery takes around 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
Recovery
After surgery you will be placed in a supportive bra and will return to the office the next day for us to check on you. We will continue to check on you as you recover and are of course here and available any day if you have any questions or concerns. Recovery from a breast reduction is quite rapid. You'll feel sore for a few days but will be feel good within a week. Change in nipple sensitivity after surgery is common and often returns to normal in a few months. Scars are the most noticeable around 6 weeks and then will begin to fade. After the first week, you can gradually increase your activity level, and strenuous exercise can resume at 6 weeks.

Q&A with Dr. Davis
Women who choose to have a breast reduction surgery are among the happiest of all patients who have plastic surgery. Many describe a new lease on life where they are literally not weighed down any longer by their breasts.
My philosophy is to reduce the breasts to a size that makes you happy, and that also is complementary and proportionate to your figure. The amount of breast tissue removed varies from person to person depending on starting point and desired outcome.
Yes! Life as a teenager is stressful enough without also adding the stress of feeling uncomfortable about the size of your breasts. Many adolescent women choose to have a breast reduction to feel more confident and secure with their bodies.
No way! I see patients seeking breast reduction for teenage years all the way up into their 70s and 80s. As long as you are in good medical health, there's really no age too old for a breast reduction.
Great question. The truth is that yes, breast feeding is still a possibility, but it's also possible that it could be affected. Because a breast reduction involves removing breast tissue, there is a risk that the surgery could limit your ability to breast feed in the future. Unfortunately, its just not possible to know how each individual person will respond. What we do know is that women who have had breast reductions have gone on to successfully breast feed their children. And there are some who haven't, but it is impossible to know if they would have had trouble breast feeding even if they hadn't had the surgery.
For a select few patients a free nipple graft is necessary in surgery. This is when the nipple and areola are removed from the breast and sewn back on as a graft. This technique is used for women who have both extremely large and elongated breasts with the nipple on the very bottom of the breast. In this scenario, it's just not possible to move the nipple up where it needs to be without detaching it and the re-attaching it, and it ends up healing very nicely.
