Breast Reconstruction in Sacramento
A woman's breasts can provide a sense of identity for who they are, and when that is changed after having a mastectomy or lumpectomy, it can affect the way they feel about themselves. When this happens, many women wish to regain their previous breast appearance before surgery with breast reconstruction.
The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore one or both breasts to a similar shape, size and appearance to what they had before. This can be achieved either through breast implants, fat transfer or a combination of both.
Dr. Davis understands that this is a deeply personal process and will be working alongside you, keeping you informed every step of the way, so you know you are in control of your journey and physical transformation.

More about Breast Reconstruction
During Your Consultation
During your breast reconstruction consultation, Dr. Davis will assess the shape, volume, and symmetry of both breasts and take measurements. He will want to hear your cancer survival story and discuss your goals and ideal result. You can also share any specific concerns and have all of your questions answered. It is always helpful for Dr. Davis to know what surgery you have previously had, current implant size and type, and status of your cancer treatment.
Technique
The vast majority of breast reconstructive surgery that Dr. Davis performs is secondary operations after women have previously undergone their initial reconstruction through their hospital or insurance provider. The techniques vary for each patient but can include breast reductions and lifts, implants exchanges and revisions, and fat grafting. Based on your surgical and treatment history, Dr. Davis will work with you to get the result that you want.
Recovery
After surgery you will be placed in a supportive bra and will return to the office the next day for us to check on you. We will continue to check on you as you recover, and are of course here and available any day if you have any questions or concerns. If fat grafting was performed, you will have a compression garment on the areas that liposuction was performed. You'll feel sore for a few days, but will be feel good within a week. Change in nipple sensitivity after surgery is common and often returns to normal in a few months. After the first week, you can gradually increase your activity level, and strenuous exercise can resume at 6 weeks.

Q&A with Dr. Davis
Breast reconstruction can be performed with implants and/or a woman's own tissue, usually from the abdomen. The reconstruction can be done at the time of the mastectomy or afterward, depending on considerations such as the need for adjuvant chemotherapy or radiation. Also, symmetry procedures are a common part of breast reconstruction. A great resource is breastreconstruction.org
Yes. Prior to joining Kaufman & Davis Plastic Surgery, I worked for 8 years in a large hospital setting and helped many women with breast reconstruction after mastectomies and lumpectomies.
I am able to offer mostly revisionary breast surgery for patients who are looking to have more symmetry after a lumpectomy or who are looking to improve upon or make changes to previous reconstruction with implants.
Most surgeries for breast reconstruction are covered by insurance, but it is important to check with your benefit plan. At our office, we do not accept insurance directly, but we will work with you to submit all the necessary information to your insurance company for potential reimbursement should you choose to have surgery with us.
